Disney wrap-up 137 | 2001-11-25 10:53 p.m.

I feel very small.

Like a cow trying to hide ever so carefully in the closet. Don't want to make a noise. Hold your breath.

Disney World was great. We went to the Magic Kingdom on Saturday. We actually got into Orlando around 10 AM, but we were charged and ready to party. So in we went to Disney. FastPass was interesting but annoying. You can only do one at a time. Well, anyway, we hit all the rides we wanted to do there on Saturday, and we stayed for the parade.

On Sunday, we went to Epcot. The one thing R really wanted to do was the Test Track. When we got there at about 10, the Fast Passes had all been distributed. :( So we headed onto the World Showcase, which turned out to be the best place we would go at Disney. We ate dinner at a Japanese restaurant -- someone, please help me here, what do you call a Japanese restaurant where the chefs cook right on the table in front of you? I had the Fujiyama -- steak and shrimp. The steak was absolutely delicious, not a single bit of fat on the thing, I swear. And the shrimp was scrumptious. Needless to say I didn't lose any weight on this trip. After dinner was the parade -- which we could have done without. But the fireworks, entitled "IllumiNations" was FANTASTIC. I definitely recommend it to anyone going to Disney.

On Monday, we went to MGM. This was the low point of our vacation. The day was dreary and cold, and R and I were both groggy. We bickered all day. The lines were horrendous and everyone was obnoxious. But two rides there were the only saving grace(s). The Twilight Tower of Terror was so great, I screamed the entire time. And the Rock and Rollercoaster was cheesy (Aerosmith's acting sucked) but the ride was fast and exhilarating. We got the picture from that one because I was screaming and R was wide-eyed. Classic. Oh yeah, we got the picture from Splash Mountain too. We were in the front and had our hands raised. Got soaked. Anyway, we went home a little early and took a nap. Then we went out to Pleasure Island. R was really excited because he hadn't been to a good dance club for months. We were both so very disappointed. There was NO ONE there. The most fun I had was sitting in the Adventurers lounge listening to cast members improve with people at the bar. I love a good laugh.

Tuesday, we went to Blizzard Beach. It was warm and sunny, just the perfect day for a water park visit. I saw some perfectly ugly women that day wearing much less than they should have been. Anyway, I got a very slight tan, because I layered on the sunblock. I wasn't in the mood to burn. Then we left, after I bought the hat that I had been desperately looking for, and went back to the World Showcase at Epcot. We hadn't finished the entire tour around the lake the previous trip, and R really wanted to eat at the French restaurant there. That lunch was also a perfect success. Well, not for my diet, anyway. Especially once I added the profiterolles au chocolat to the bill. I had a nice buzz after two glasses of wine, too. We were sitting in the window there, and I saw a woman dressed completely in white walk by, escorted by a Disney employee. I knew right away that this was one of the living statues!!! A huge crowd formed right outside the restaurant entrace, and we paid for our bill and joined the audience. She was hilarious! As people stood next to her for pictures, she stole random items like boys' hats and girls' elastic bands, and one guy's pen. He didn't even know until the crowd started laughing that something was wrong. We must have stood there for 20 minutes. Then she left and we moved on. Nothing else too spectacular that day. We had a hell of a time finding a place to eat that night. R wanted a simple buffet dinner. So we went down 192 looking for a place. First we went to Shoney's and R said, "All they have here is pork chops, meatloaf and fried chicken. Let's find some other place." So we went down the street to the Ponderosa. We walked in, and immediately I said, "Let's leave," because the smoke was so incredibly thick. I honestly don't know how people can eat in that kind of environment. It was disgusting. Andway, we finally ended up at the Sizzler. It was an expensive meal and all I really had was most of a baked potato, a cup of chicken noodle soup and about 3 ounces of steak. So very disappointing.

Wednesday, we were thinking of going to Animal Kingdom, but the day before, we had seem big industrial cranes and things over there from Blizzard Beach, and we decided we would go to Sea World instead, and hit Animal Kingdom at a later date, maybe when it was more built up. That was such a good move. I got to touch a dolphin!!!! I've ALWAYS wanted to do that. I had to kick a lady to get far enough in, but really it was an accident. I'm still reeling over that. I love dolphins. First thing into the park, we ran to get onto Kraken. It was an amazing ride, and we were the first full ride of the day. I got off the ride and headed for the bathroom (too many Gs of force plus my small bladder plus caffeine equals frequent trips to ladies' room), and R went on the ride a second time. The line was still short, so he only waited about, oh, 5 seconds. Then we headed for the flume. I should have heeded the warning that said, "YOU WILL GET SOAKED." Several rides at Disney had said that and nothing had happened. So R and I sat in the front row. We went down the biggest part and got a little spray. We were saying, "Aw, that was nothing, come on!" Irony. The very next tiny little drop, my underwear became waterlogged. I became a human washcloth. I have never felt so disgusting. My shorts were cotton, and I had no other clothes in the car, so I was stuck that way. I went back into the ladies' room and squeezed out my shorts and underwear. I did that twice. The second time was after seeing Shamu. When they warned us this time, R and I just said, WHO CARES? WE'RE ALREADY SOAKED. It was not nearly as bad the second time, except that it was salt water. Rob's cell was in his pocket, and it DIED. He finally did something to it today to make it work again, but we thought it was a lost cause. We also saw an awesome water skiing show. Then we saw the stingrays (and fed them), manatees, aligators and crocs (one of the aligators was dead, we suspect...) and the dolphin and false killer whale show. I had a great time. Then, Thanksgiving with Rob's grandparents. Nothing really to write home about there. It was almost embarassing. Gram made me play the piano for her, and since I haven't played properly in about a year, I was very rusty. I need to get a keyboard. What else? She started crying when she told me about her son, David. He died when he was 16 in an accident. He was hit by a drunk driver, who just happened to be their family's next door neighbor. I knew about him, but I didn't know he was waked on Thanksgiving. Ouch! He died 33 years ago. How does anyone ever get over that kind of thing?

Anyway, R and I left Florida at noon yesterday and got back at 5 AM today. We slept until 11, and couldn't sleep any more. I got up and did laundry, then cleaned my computer room and did some work for the Society. My mom and I talked about me getting an MBA and starting my own business, doing the kind of thing I do for the Society, for other organizations like theirs. That would be great. If I could pull it off. We'll see.

I started back on my diet today. Things like chicken broth and rice cakes seem so refreshing after all the restaurant food we've been eating. I feel huge. I weighed myself on T-day, and I was in at 137.5. My goal for that day was 130. I need to work harder. I don't want to be one of those ladies on a habitual diet. My hips just seem to get bigger and bigger. I want to be THIN, goddamit.

Well, I don't want to end this on a negative note, so I will just go to bed now. I have been so productive today, cleaning and cooking so many different things. (Cooking dinner and cookies for Rob, nothing too extravagant.) I don't know how I will be able to sleep. I want to go for a jog! (Yawn.) Maybe I won't have trouble sleeping after all. Good night, sweet dreams.
